In honor of Black History Month, we are proud to host
"The Souls of Black Patients: A Conversation at the Crossroads of Race, Culture, Power, and Health"
Area resident and national health care expert Beau Stubblefield-Tave has devoted decades of study and activism to addressing inequality in health care. Now he is embarking on a project to relate the personal experiences of people who have faced unequal treatment in the health care system due to racism, ageism, classism, sexism, homophobia, and other forms of bias and discrimination. The project will also explore real world remedies to this "most shocking and inhumane form of injustice" (Martin Luther King, Jr.).
The ultimate goal is health equity--a "beloved community" where "everyone has a fair opportunity to live a long and healthy life and the opportunity to attain their full health potential." We're delighted to host him for a unique event, dedicated to the creation of a book. Join us for an evening of discussion with Stubblefield-Tave as he gathers material for one of the most important issues affecting Americans today--and bring your own story to participate in a new and exciting work.
Parking is available directly behind Back Pages in the Crescent Street Lot (no charge after 6 PM).
