James O’Connell discusses
Waltham & The Hub’s Metropolis: Boston’s Suburban Development From Railroad Suburbs to Smart Growth
RSVP HERE (not required, but helps us keep your seat!)
Join us for an evening with James O’Connell as he discusses Waltham’s unique place in the history of the region’s development from country estates to modern metropolitan suburbs. O’Connell will trace the city’s ascent from village retreat for Boston’s wealthiest citizens through the rise of the railroad, the streetcar, and into the present day landscape of roads, transit hubs, cars, buses, trains, and Route 128, reflecting on the impact of planning throughout the years.
This event is sponsored by The Waltham League of Women Voters, whose Waltham Visions series seeks to host forums in order gain a greater understanding of the city of Waltham.
This event is free and open to all. Parking is available directly behind Back Pages in numbered spaces and is free after 6 PM. Back Pages is also reachable by the 70 bus, 70A, and Commuter Rail (at Waltham).
